Position Overview                   

The Finance Manager is a hands-on leadership role, acting as a trusted business partner to the Country Manager, and responsible for all finance, accounting, and controlling activities for Geox Canada. This position combines strategic financial leadership with direct, day-to-day execution of tasks and projects. 
 
As part of a small, agile team, the Finance Manager is expected to personally perform key operational tasks while also shaping financial strategy. This is not a role focused solely on oversight; it is ideal for someone who thrives in both highlevel planning and detailed execution. 
 
The Finance Manager will manage one Accounts Payable Administrator and serve as the primary financial liaison with our Italian Headquarters, ensuring alignment in reporting, compliance, operations, and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities                

Accounting: Day-to-Day & Period End                    

  • Own month-end, quarter-end and year-end close activities, including accruals, provisions, rent and lease-related entries, payroll accruals, inventory entries, foreign exchange routines, capitalization and disposal of assets, transitory account management and balance sheet reconciliations 
  • Research technical accounting issues, including sales tax, leases, inventory, revenue recognition and other compliance-related matters
  • Calculate, report, and pay sales taxes across all applicable jurisdictions 
  • Prepare and finalize timely monthly financial statements, local statutory financial statements and HQ reporting packages
  • Maintain accounting policies, documentation and internal controls to support accurate reporting
  • Coordinate with external accountants for corporate income tax returns and file non-resident taxes 

Accounts Payable                   

  • Review and approve payment runs 
  • Oversee vendor management and maintain employee expense policy 
  • Approve employee expenses and review booking of expenses and approvals 
  • Manage corporate cellphone account (SIM cards, user additions/removals) 
  • Manage and develop the AP Coordinator, providing coaching, evaluation, and workload support 

Accounts Receivable                          

  • Coordinate between credit, sales, and customer service functions to resolve issues preventing order entry/release 
  • Oversee customer payments and collections, ensuring compliance with credit insurance requirements
  • Review customer disputes and ensure they are promptly investigated and resolved 

Treasury & Cash Management                     

  • Prepare monthly cash flow projections and monitor bank accounts 
  • Authorize bank payment documents and monitor cash flow 
  • Follow up on store deposit discrepancies 
  • Assist with any banking-related issues 

Payroll                          

  • Process payroll entries in financial system and reconcile with payroll provider reports 
  • Prepare payroll accruals and file applicable payroll taxes (e.g. EHT)           Assist team members with payroll questions and tax-related issues

Controlling & Financial Planning

Retail                   
  • Prepare DOS sales budget/forecast and weekly distribution 
  • Coordinate budgeted discounts by channel and calculate DOS expenses for budget/forecast 
  • Prepare monthly reporting to monitor store payroll 
  • Prepare BEPs for lease renewals, new store proposals, and restyling projects 
  • Prepare policies for stores (e.g., deposits, tax procedures) 
  • Analyze retail performance including retail KPI and sell-through analysis
Wholesale                        
  • Prepare wholesale sales forecasts 
  • Prepare profitability file (gross to net) for each new season 
  • Provide analysis to determine markdown support impacts 
  • Book and monitor co-op support 
  • Analyze Amazon contractual deductions and request related markdowns 
  • Support the wholesale commercial team to quantify the profitability of sales
General                             
  • Prepare structure costs budget/forecasts (structure and sales force) 
  • Monitor compliance with budget and report variances 
  • Analyze sales, margin, and expense trends across provinces to identify opportunities 
  • Assist the Country Manager with P&L analysis, preparation of reports and presentations 
  • Function as key financial advisor to the Country Manager on day-to-day controlling, tracking, and analysis of financial performance against budgets, quarterly forecasts, and other targets

Italian HQ Liaison & External Relations                  

  • Serve as the primary financial liaison with Italian Headquarters on all reporting, compliance, and strategic matters 
  • Coordinate group auditor activities for interim and year-end audits 
  • Liaise with HQ regarding lease renewals, legal issues, and claims 
  • Represent Geox Canada financially to external parties including government authorities, auditors, tax agents, and banking institutions 
  • Maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, banking institutions, and auditors
  • Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings 

Legal, Insurance & Administration                          

  • Comment on contracts and agreements (vendors, customers, general contractors) 
  • Manage relationship with local insurance broker and oversee annual COI update 
  • Follow up on lease-related insurance matters 
  • Calculate annual weights of recyclable materials produced by province and prepare stewardship reporting for BC, ON, and QC authorities 
  • Review and approve store maintenance requirements 
  • Maintain alarm and building access rights at head office 
  • Work on special projects as needed

Position Requirements                     

ExperienceMinimum 7 years of combined accounting and finance experience, preferably in the retail industry (fashion/footwear an asset). Must have hands-on experience, not solely supervisory.
EducationPost-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. CPA or CMA designation preferred. 
SystemsExperience with SAP or comparable ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite). Advanced proficiency in Excel. Experience with BI tools and financial dashboards an asset.
LanguagesFluent in English (written and oral). French and/or Italian language skills are a strong asset.

Working Conditions                

  • Primarily office-based role with extended periods of computer and desk work
  • Periodic peak workload during close, forecasting, budget and HQ reporting cycles 
  • May be required to support time-sensitive issues and projects outside normal working hours, when business needs dictate
